First United Methodist Church, Aberdeen, SD

The present church building was dedicated in November 1909. The building has received remarkable good care since then and the church continues to be relevant and healthy in downtown Aberdeen.

First UMC today

Whereas many "older downtown" churches are suffering membership loss and structural decay, First UMC is a vital congregation with many community outreach programs.

The Sanctuary

Sunday morning worship has an average attendance of 800; Sunday School is alive and growing with average attendance of 475.

The Sanctuary at Easter

Tiffany windows are a special blessing in the sanctuary.

They were placed in our church building in 1909, when the church was dedicated.

Pictured here is the east window depicting Hofmann's "Resurrection."

The Dome

In 1976 our church building was named to the National Register of Historical Places. We welcome visitors wishing to tour our facility.

Chapel of the Apostles

The Chapel of the Apostles is located on the north side of hte church. It is used for music programs - Children's Choir, Chancel Choir, Bell Choir and Methodist Brass.

Chapel of the Apostles

The lives of the Apostles are depicted in the faceted glass windows. The final window is the Bishop, which represents all the apostles of today.
